“Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.”

Hello all! My name is Gallican Kalimuvumba Buki. I am the last born of 11 children. A fun fact about my last name and brand is that “Buki” actually means ‘Honey”. So, I like to joke that my photographs are always really sweet to look at.
I am currently a photographer based out of Edmonton, Alberta. Photography first caught my eye in 2015, when a friend handed me their film camera. From that small moment in time, my passion and talent for capturing peoples authentic moments only continued to grow. I spent a great deal of time experimenting and honing my abilities to be able to tell a story through my shots. Ever since 2016, I’ve been utilizing my unique perspective, my creativity and my genuine adoration for photography as a profession.
When I am not behind the camera, you can find me longboarding, playing guitar, eating or sleeping. I am also proud to be one of the founders of an Edmonton-based collective that empowers & promotes people of African, Black, Caribbean and Latinx descent; La Connexional. (Check them out for some good vibes and more of my work: https://www.laconnexional.com/)
I am very grateful for the many doors that photography opens up for me everyday. I enjoy getting to know and work with each individual that I meet! I am extremely thankful for the amazing friendships that I have been able to develop from capturing peoples special moments. It is always a huge achievement when I am able to encompass their personalities into each shot and bring their visual dreams to fruition. I am looking forward to meeting and working with so many more of you! Don’t hesitate to reach out, even if it’s just to say hi!
Mental health is important to me. This is why, for the past 3 years, I have been growing my moustache and raising money for the Movember Campaign.
